Lecture & Tutorial 12:
15 June, 2018 (Week 12)
On the twelfth week of class which we have it online, we were given a tasked where as an exercise for our final project, we need to model just the head. The reason for this, so that it will be easier for us and also to learn how to model a face properly avoiding making faces with more than 4 sides.
I chose to make a baby face however, it doesn't turn out to be one. I am still learning and I find it hard to avoid creating more than 4 sides.

I starte modeling 1 whole face and delete the other half and set it to duplicate special, however, I have a problem with the curve of the nose as it is duplicated. As I model it, I use a little bit of tutorials to help me, but it just seems doesn't help wherein I am lost in the middle of the tutorials. Since that, I decided to continue it on my own without watching any tutorials. As a result the outcome is so different from the reference that I want to make.

The outcome, didn't turn out so well, It should have been a baby face but it's far from the reference as it turns out to be like an alien. Well, this was such a struggle exercise that I encounter but I won't give up, I will keep on trying to do faces as this will help in my Final project.
WORK PROGRESS - FINAL PROJECT
22 June, 2018 - 8 July, 2018 (Week 13 - Week 15)
On the thirteenth week of class, I started to sketch and find some references to help with my character for my final project. At first, I decided to make a monster, but when I showed my sketches to my friends and as they looked at it, they suggested that I should change it because it is too simple, they are afraid that Mr. Kannan will not accept it since it is final project it should be more challenging.

For our final project, it was told that the character should have a story as they pose, so I decided to make that the monster that is fishing. Since everyone suggested me to change the character so I did. I feel anxious because it is too simple also.

I decided to change my concept, wherein I will challenge myself to do organic model which is more like a person cartoon character. For this model, I got helped from watching some tutorial so that I can model in a proper way avoiding sided that is more than four.
|
Fig. 4. Sketches of my second idea to model |
For this model I do the whole body first and then that's the time I shaped it into a proper head, body, back and everything.
|
Fig. 5. Modeling the basic shapes of the whole body |
In figure 5.1. I started to shape it to look like a cartoon character by adding some eyes, ears, mustache, gloves and boots.
|

In figure 5.2. I started to add some details such as adding a hat, clothes stripe and belt so that it appears that the character is wearing clothes and pants.

As I am done with the T pose, it's time to do the posing where I add some hammer for the character to hold. When I do the joints to everything in the character's body, its time to move it around using the rotation tool. It was an amazing technique during the modeling.

For this character I do all the joints also for the fingers so that it can bend and hold the hammer.

This character modeling I learn a lot that a good and proper way of modeling will satisfy the outcome. I am avoiding all the 3 sided or more than five sided during the modeling. I am also trying to follow the rules wherein we should model in T pose first. As far as I am modeling I really do take note all the rules in 3D modeling to avoid breaking the rules. I learnt a lot through watching some of the tutorials for further understanding. In the future and if I have the luxury of time, I will keep on practicing to model on my own.
